Not many folks appreciate the loud camera shutter sound. Personally, I make sure to keep it quiet before snapping photos at public places. Also when I’m sitting on the bus or enjoying my travel by flight, I mute camera shutter sound on my iPhone while capturing selfies to ensure others aren’t disturbed by my action. Turning off the iPhone camera shutter sound is not a big deal. There are some simple ways to do it. More after the jump.

How to Turn Off iPhone Camera Shutter Sound: 5 Tricks Explained

Note: One thing worth noting is that there are some countries like Japan and Korea where users must have to keep the camera sound enabled. Hence, if you are living in such countries, you won’t be able to mute the camera sound of your iOS device.

Use the Mute or Ring/Silent Switch

You can use the mute switch to turn off the shutter sound of the camera app comfortably.

One thing you need to know that it will also mute incoming calls and notifications. So, once you have captured the photos, make sure to turn off the silent switch to unmute the notifications as well as incoming calls sound.

Take a shot using Volume button

Another easy way to silent the shutter sound is to use the volume button. But if you try to turn down the volume of your device while in the Camera app, burst mode will be triggered. So, be sure to lower the volume before launching the Camera app on your device.

You can either use the volume down button located on the left side of your device or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up Control Center and then swipe down on the volume button to lower the sound.

Alternately, you can open Settings app → Sounds & Haptics → and then drag the Ringer and Alerts slider button to the left side to mute the volume.

Use Hands-free

Sound

A better way to mute the camera shutter sound is to use hands-free while clicking pictures. Before you start taking photos, connect your headphones or lightning headphones with the female 3.5mm jack or lightning connector, or you can use wireless headphones as well. This will stop the camera shutter sound from coming out; instead, the sound will go into your headphones, and only you can listen to that click when you have inserted the buds in your ears.

Take photos while shooting videos

This is another nifty trick to capture photos silently on your iPhone. Open the Camera app and start shooting videos on your iPhone. Next, you can see a circular camera shutter button on the left of the video capture square icon in red color. Tap that round shutter button to take photos.

You won’t listen to the camera shutter sound on your iPhone. Moreover, you don’t even see any movement on the iPhone screen as your photo is silently saved in the Photos app.

Play audio player and take photos

One of the craziest solutions to capture photos silently on your iOS device is to start an audio player on your device. Play your favorite songs and then leave the audio playing app; next, open the Camera app on your iPhone and click photos. Nobody can listen to that shutter sound on your iPhone.

That’s pretty much it!
